Welcome to Shoee – The Online Store of Angus Copelin-Walters

Shoee was born during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Angus’ candy business came to an abrupt halt as events were cancelled and shops closed. One day, while walking past a local shop near his home, he noticed a teddy bear in the window. The bear represented Legacy, a charitable organisation supporting veteran’s families, which caught Angus’ attention. Intrigued, he entered the store and struck up a conversation with the shop owners, Marianne and Harrold Thode. This casual chat turned into regular visits, and over time, Angus became like family to Marianne and Harrold.

As the pandemic continued, school went on in Darwin, where Angus lived, and his bond with Marianne and Harrold grew stronger. One day, they offered to teach him to sew, to which he eagerly agreed. Angus loved being creative, and the Thodes enjoyed his visits just as much. He continued sewing, and soon after, he was inspired by the elderly people who were isolated during the pandemic. Determined to spread some cheer, Angus began making coasters for tea cups and bags for walker frames, sending them to residential care facilities across Australia.

He named his brand Ango Mango, a nickname given to him by his older brother. The young entrepreneur even had the opportunity to video chat with the Prime Minister and was personally visited by the Administrator of the Northern Territory.

The Thodes shared their incredible history in upholstery work, especially their efforts after the devastating Cyclone Tracy. They also told Angus about the beautiful furnishings they had created for Government House and various hotels. During one special visit to Government House, Angus had the privilege of a "Royal Tour" led by the then-Administrator, Her Honour, Vicki O’Halloran. He was thrilled to visit the Queen’s Room, where Queen Elizabeth II had once stayed. Inspired, Angus collaborated with Marianne and Harrold to create regal bee-patterned cushions for the Queen's bed. Months later, he received a special thank-you letter from Queen Elizabeth II, a moment that remains one of his fondest memories.

Today, Ango Mango has rebranded into Shoee, a small online store dedicated to offering handmade shoe bags for travellers and eco-conscious individuals who want to protect their shoes while reducing plastic waste. Each bag is carefully crafted, with some made by Angus himself and others created by a group of talented women who help keep the stock ready for shipment.

Shoee’s story is one of community, creativity, and giving back, and we are excited to share it with you through our unique, handcrafted products. Thank you for supporting our journey!
